It's Positive!

Tuesday December 30, 2008 at 11:38am I got the phone call that I had been waiting for since August. Just a quick update, after trying to conceive on our own for 1 1/2 years Scott and I sought out the help of a fertility clinic. I won't be mentioning anything from the previous 2 years in this blog because that is behind us now and I want to remember the positive. Ok, back to the phone call! Now I have gotten quite a few phone calls from the fertility clinic telling me that I was not pregnant, but I could tell by the tone of voice on the other end of the phone that she was not going to tell me that. This was how the conversation went, "Ami, this is Lisa from Dr Malo's office. How are you today?" "Well it's postive!" This is where I preceeded to go into shock because I had only gotten negative tests or no's for the last two years and didn't quite know how to react. I immediately asked what my number was. I knew that when they drew my blood they were looking for an HCG number and that this number needed to gradually get bigger each day you are pregnant. Lisa told me that my number was 20 and she said it was good. I asked her what number they were ideally looking for. She said that they look for anything between 15-100. I asked her if 20 was bad because it was on the lower end but she said that everyone was different and that it was like comparing apples to oranges. She proceeded to tell me that 20 was a good number, that this was a good cycle, that Scott had great sperm and that I have nothing to worry about. She said my next step was to get my blood drawn on Friday to find out my blood type and to make sure my number has tripled; she said she wants it at a 60.

Did you hear that, I AM PREGNANT! I needed to call Scott and fill him in on the good news! I know it is so impersonal calling my husband to tell him that I am pregnant instead of telling him in person but welcome to the world of infertility. I called Scott and when he answered I said, "Are you ready to be a daddy?" Scott replied, "No way, no way, no way!! I can't believe it worked! Did you call your mom before me?" I told Scott that of course he was the first person I called and then I think we both were in a state of shock. I told him to call his mom and sister and I was going to do the same. I then called my mom (who was with my dad and Ella) and she cried so hard the only words I could make out were "God" and "miracle". I told my mom she could tell her sisters because they all had been praying so hard for us but that I wanted to call Grandma. I called Cara and she screamed. I called Grandma Hepler and she said "Praise the Lord!", which was followed by a story about a time when she had kidney stones which I didn't understand. I called Jill who was in a state of shock. She said she had waited for this call for so long but didn't know what to say. Jill told me she would call me back when it sunk in. From there we told Bonnie, Jesse, Elizabeth, Nicole, Colleen, Frannie, Kelly, Laura, Heidi, Karen and Whitney. I am sure the list will grow from there but we want to get good news on Friday first.

Until then...
